Maslrpee Waterways ComInMion <br /> Minutes of the July 10th,2012 Meeting , <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chairman Iden Bates at 10:1 ASI Meeting Room#2, <br /> lashpee Town Hall. <br /> Present were: Ken Bates,Al Wickel,Steve Pinard and Bill Taylor. <br /> Absent Tim Leedham and Paul %mmlto <br /> Also Present: Mike Richardson(BOS),Stephen Mone-Harbonnaster <br /> Voted unanimous approval of minutes of Jun 12th,2012 meefing. Motion by At wicket <br /> second by Steve Pinard <br /> Voted unanimous approval to accept Stephen Mone's application to Mashpee Waterway's <br /> Commission.Motion by Steve Pknard second by Bill Taylor <br /> Voted unanimous approval to retain nate of officers as standing in the Mashpee Waterway's <br /> Commission.. Motion by Bill Taylor second by Steve Pinard <br /> Convspondence-None <br /> Committee Reports- <br /> . <br /> Harbormaster Report: Stephen Mone reported that it was a very busy July 4 week.Additional <br /> manpower was rewired with the 0 falling on a Wednesday.There were no major incidents, <br /> however several citations were issued dealing with missing boat restrations,mandatory safety <br /> gear,and operator's age being too young.There were some jet-ski issues with speed and observed <br /> safety,issues the chief complaints.Paddlboard operators were educated to the need to provide <br /> Pi 's as the Coast Guard considers the paddle-boards small boats,just like sunfish etc.Steve <br /> added. Safety checks would continue throughout the summer Steve said with education of our <br /> boaters being the primary concern.Ken Bates reported his encounter-with jet-skiers in and a <br /> -round a swim.area.Ken reported the operators of the jet-skis were very respectful and departed <br /> the area as soon as they were asked to.Mr.done offered the information#hat no wake speeds are <br /> required within 150 R of swim areasust like within 150 ft of shore.A Boatm Safety Course is <br /> being planned by the Harbonnaster and Environmental police program to be held.at the <br /> Poppon sset Bay Community Center.It was mentioned that the local Power Squadrons provide <br /> excellent PnDgrwns as well for boater's considerations.The Harbormaster mentioned that the <br /> Environmental Police proms offers excellent free programs. Stephen also said he was about- <br /> haf way doge with banding moorings. Ic.reported that.thea were about 1 15 new moorings <br /> released in the waquoit areas.The mooring list was being revised quickly. <br /> Shellfish Report:.Shellfish warden Rick York was smell busy with the water <br /> quality usting program and not available at this meeting. <br /> Mashpee--wakeby:Bill Taylor said all.is quiet and that.this year's.booklet is available <br /> Waquoit Bay: Very busy <br /> Popponesset Bay: Very busy with a few overloaded boats and no wake area violations <br /> corrected. <br /> Water Quality Fest Program Steve reported the first day of water quality testing went <br /> well this morning.we have a shortage of boat Captains he added.Many are unable to commit for <br /> the entire season due to employment responsibilities.This hurts continuity,but the Bay Captains <br /> John Vest and Al Wickel were doing excellent jobs working out the mks.All looked good. <br />
