I <br /> Ma tepee waterways Commission May 1 ,2009 <br /> Meting Minutes <br /> The meeting was called to order by Secretary Steve Pinard at 9:08 ANI in Meeting Room#3,Mashp e <br /> Town Hall.Chairman Ken Bates was not able to attend. <br /> Present: Perry Ellis,Tim Leedham, Al wiekel, Steve Pinard <br /> Not in Attendance: Iden Bates. Gerry Dal},Bill Taylor <br /> Others in attendance: lick York <br /> ll oti n to approve the April;1 ,2009 Meeting minutes,as amended,was made by Al wie el.,seconded by <br /> Tim Leedham and was unanimously approved. <br /> Committee Reports: <br /> Harbormaster: Perry Ellis reported that all was on schedule in preparation for the corning season. <br /> Channel markers have been installed and Navigation aids were in place. Swim markers will be put in just <br /> before Memorial Day. The Patrol Boat has been lettered,and will be launched today,and the second boat <br /> will also be launched today or tomorrow. Mooring bill delinquency notices, along with requests for <br /> removal of moorings will be sent out to all who are delinquent,and those who have notified his office that <br /> they will not be renewing their permits Abandoned moorings will be pulled,and notices ofavailable <br /> mooring spots,along with new invoices and regulations, will be sent to persons on the waiting lists based <br /> n list position, specified locations, and number of moorings available. There is a time window of two <br /> weeks for a response to these notices. <br /> Perry Ellis reported than start time violations had taken place with the Fishing Tournament this <br /> past week at Wa eby Lake. The Tournament Licenses were suspended for a two year period. The group <br /> involved cannot use the lake during this period for tournaments. Perry Ellis also noted that herring were <br /> running well until draggers appeared on the Sound. Herring Run numbers dropped significantly with this <br /> appearance. <br /> Shellfish Constable Report: Shellfish Constable lick York reported that the State Department of <br /> Marine Fisheries has closed the boat yard and marina.areas to shellfishing from May 1 to October 3 1,as is <br /> the usual process. The Falmouth side of Waquoit Bay opened for sh ll ishing on May 1. Falmouth closes <br /> their side as a management closure from November 15 to April 30. we are seeing large scallop seed that <br /> we released in waquoit Bay last fall that survived and is growing. Falmouth also seeded scallops there last <br /> fall. we released more scallop seed last month that was held in trays over the winter. <br /> Yesterday evening,the water in the bays was fairly clear but Santuit Pond still has an algae bloom <br /> with water temperatures about 60 degrees <br /> Fresh water/ll shpee-Wakeby Lake ManagementCommittee: A lot of fishing has been taking <br /> place on wa eby Pond,particularly during late afternoon and sunset. The water is high and the Herrin are <br /> running. It was noted that hearing fishing had slowed. g <br /> Popponessett Bay: Tim Leedham reported that there was increased boating activity and <br /> launchings. repairs to the Town Landing doers in Ockway were undertaken. Dredge pipe is still located <br /> on the Ppponeset Beach area. <br /> waquoit Bay: Perry Ellis reported that there are few boats are in the water. About 1 %of <br /> mooring permits were cancelled,and these spots will be opened up to those on the mooring wait lists. <br /> State Dredge bate Meetings- No report <br />
