The motion was seconded by
Perry Ellis, and unanimously approved
Old Business
Ken Bates reported on the efforts of Jim Hanks and himself to research and uncover available historical
data from the Town and State archives regarding past dredge activities in Popponsset Bay for the 1916
Channel. The search was started with the Town Archives via the Historical Society and the State Archives.
The writing of an IFP for dredging a channel for either the 1916 Channel or the low tide delta was written
and forwarded by Ken Bates and Jim Hanks to Town Manager Ms. Joyce Mason on May 29,2009. Iden
Bates had been contacted by the Town noting nothing had been found around the years 1916 and 1936 in
the Town Archives. One State office advised they had found nothing but the DCR office in Hingbarn had
found a plan marked Popponesset and another document but Iden would have to review the data there to see
if it was anything that might be of value. Upon review, the plan was for the Popponesset Creek dredging in
1960 and the other document was the maintenance dredge contract of 1936 for the 1916 Channel. Thea
were additional file cards Bund that noted who and when the 1916 Channel predred e survey was
performed as well as the after dredge survey dates and surveyor and the after dredge soundings report for
the 1916 Channel. These file cards noted the old 1916 file numbers but no files going back that far for the
then DP's could be Bund located in the Hingham office. Ken Bates was advised to contact the Boston
DCR office to see if the 1936 dredge plan could be located there but it was not Bund. That office did
however note that a copy of the 1936 maintenance dredge contract should be included with our ENF filing
as that mould prone we were going for a maintenance dredge contract and that effort should be a little
easier and less costly than going for a new dredge permit.
Ren and Jinn worked up a revised RFP dealing only with the 1916 Channel. The revised RFP was
forwarded to Nis. Mason for her and the BOS review.
A motion was made by Steve Pinard to recommend to the B S the revised RFP should be the one they
follow.: It was seconded by Perry Ellis, and unanimously approved .
Ken Bates also reported that a possible dredge of the sand bar located at the entrance to the Mashpee River
was also being addressed in this RFP. The BOS has requested an update of the Mashpee River Dredging
project. Ken Bates and Jim Hanks will provide formal presentation t the Board f Selectmen t their
upcoming June 22 meeting.
Ren Bates reported that Mashpee Selectman Michael Richardson has been appointed to be the B S Liaison
to the Waterways Commission.
