Mashpee waterway Commission July 9, 2008 <br /> Minutes for June 10, 2008 <br /> Meeting called to order-at 9:05 AM <br /> Members Present—Tim Leedham—Chairman, Gerald Daly, Paul Lumsden,n, Bill Taylor, <br /> Ken Bates <br /> Motion—Bill Taylor made a motion to approve the April minutes as corrected, seconded <br /> y Jerry Daly and approved unanimously. <br /> Harbormaster Report—No report Perry Ellis on water working today. <br /> Shellfish Report—Rick York—_Department move to MPD 1s complete. The Dept is <br /> locating a new storage area. No enforcement problems. <br /> Propagation Plan— 800 oyster spat hags for Mashpee River, 70 oyster spat bags for <br /> Hamblin Pond and 800,000 quahog seeds from State monies through Barnstable County. <br /> 1,000,000 single oyster from Mashpee Shellfish permit. funds. - <br /> water duality is,good. Division Marine Fisheries tests for bacteria, we collect data and <br /> samples for the Mass Estuaries Project, Umass Dartmoutb. <br /> Mashpee Fiver has a lot of algae floating as well as on the bottom. <br /> waquoit Bay—a neat of algae exists but not floating as yet. Photosynthesis will cause 1t <br /> to rise and float. <br /> No lied Tide algae. --�� <br /> Committee Reports—Bill Taylor Mashpee wal ehy fake—Newsletter has gone out. <br /> Traffic has started but is slow. Boats apparently will go in the water at later dates. <br /> Activity is growing and is very similar to other gears. A lot of algae growth going out— <br /> mostly from.river. The first half of the wirer is the worst. <br /> Waquoit Bay. No heavy traffic as yet. Mooring fields are still open and filling slowly. <br /> Water Quality—See shellfish report <br /> Barnstable County Coastal Resources is reactivated. They will tackle shellfish <br /> propagation and Rich York will be requested to male a presentation on the success of his <br /> endeavors to their group. <br /> Waterways Innprove ent Plan—Channel across sand delta- Jinn.Hanks— "h model for <br /> dredging permits to be run in Popponesset Bay. wait for hathymetry and sand analysis <br /> data. We will find out if good sand fill for if we are confronted with black muck.. Rich <br /> York suggests we confirm with a hydro geologist that a new channel would work at this <br /> new location. Graham Geist's name was mentioned and Jim o'Connells name was <br /> mentioned and Jim Hanks will confer with one or both of them. Jinn noted that after <br /> observing the channel dredging from a few years back that from '97 until now the sand <br />
