all the cape Towns. Jerry also reported that there is a workshop coming up after the
holidays on docks and piers to discuss trends and new construction technology. They also
discussed the lack of implementation of the Local Comprehensive Plans, and they plan to
encourage the Town Manners to take action and to encourage implementation. On January
at W13NRR there will be a meeting on Stormwater issues.
6, wat rwa s Improvemenj Plan and Dredgine Permits—,Tim Danks
Most of the information has been covered above. Jim Hanks reported that Ian Hadfield who
had learned of our Mashpee River muck problem in the Mashpee Enterprise contacted him. He
is from United Reteeh, and they specialize in binding up cont rm*nated soils with cement to
make a re- yleable product. He sent some material to Jinn, which included a small C
presentation of their process. Jinn played the CD, and the commissions thinking is that the
process may be overkill for our situation because we don't have a contamination problem. Jim
Played the CD, and noted that in discussion, the cost was approximately$35 per ton, less
that the Bourne Landfill option. The Commission discussed possible uses for the stabilized
muck, but no feasible ideas were forthcoming.
Jim reported that he had done some calculations on the idea of creating a circular island using
Derma-LOC plastic sheet piling. The idea is to sink 8 foot pieces 2 feet into the bottom, with
feet cantilevered above, of which 1 to 3 feet would be in the water and 3 to 3 feet in the air.
The material would be cross-tied for structural strength, and would look sort of like an above-
the-ground kid's swimming pool. Then the container would be filled with dredged material
with enough material so that initially it world be above mean high water, but as it compacts
over time would become a low-lying island that could revert to salt marsh. The way it was left
off is that Jim will be gating back to Joy Bennett of I erma-LOC with some specifies on how
many panels would be needed, and then we can approximate a cost.
T. Proposedew channel vice parallel to, i .
Jim.Hanks tabled the item since the Mashpee River project is of a higher priority and no work
has been done.
. Popponesset.S.Rit.Nourishment
See paragraph under County Dredge Advisory Committee Meeting above. The Commission
also discussed the possibility of using Mashpee River dredged material if it was bound up b
the cement technique,or compatible fill from other construction projects, such as the Goch
Center.
. Beach Nourishment Easement Form
There was no discussion of the draft easement forth. Jim stated that he had made a few
changes to match the'Tom's situation, and sent it to Save Iopponeset Bay for their
discussions with New Seabury.
Page
