i
9P
Tiny Leedham had several questions and asked 'if he could defer them to the portion of the
agenda where we discuss topics.
Jerry Daly stated that he has heard all kinds of rumors concerning dredging in Shoestring Bay,
including going all the way up to the condos. Jin Danks stated that that correlates with the
information he got from Ken Molloy stating that the wind-farm project, which is looking for a
site to tie into power lines, may have to dredge to a depth of 20 feet to get heir equipment into
that site,
Tim Leedham asked what the plans were for dredging in the Shoestring Bay area, so Jim
explained the goals of the so-called"Waterways ImprovementPlan"developed in 1996-97. The
plan called for dredging the Mashpee River first, then Ockway Bay,a channel from the inlet to
the deeper channel in Popponesset Bay,thea Shoestring bay if there is enough interest. To help
Tiny Leedham understand the background, members of the commission discussed the
background of the dredging project and the problems we have faced.
Review of Minutes—The minutes were reviewed and Jerry Daly moved the minutes be
approved as written, BUI Taylor seconded the motion, and all commissioners voters in favor.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Harbormasier.Deport—> erre Ellis Perry reported that on Wednesday he would pull the last
of the channel markers in Popponesset Bay and the last two Harborrmster boats, but leave the
pumpout boat in for a couple of weeps in ease we need it. He plans to get the mooring bills out
early January, and plans to go to the Selectmen for a mooring rate increase. He proposed an
increase in the basic fee from$40 dollars to $50 nc $5 rather than $4 per additional foot over 20
feet. The waterways Commission discussed the idea, noting that the idea was presented to the
Selectmen earlier in a status briefing. After lengthy deliberation,,ferry Daly made a notion to
recommend to the selectmen that we increase the basic rate by o,and also
increase the cost per additional foot over 20 feet by $1 to$5, seconded by John
Sa.rthaugh, and the motion carried unanimously. we also agreed to recommend that the
fee be reviewed annually, Bill'Taylor also stated that we should be looking at the idea of
increasing the size of mooring fiefs as we plan our dredging.
2. Shellfish Constable&P—Ort—Rick York
Rick York reported that there are now two"sondes" capable of continuously recording Dissolved
Oxygen,Temperature and Salinity;one in the Mashpee River and one in Little liver, He also
said that he and Ed Baker had removed the one in the Mashpee River flue to the risk of ice
damage. A week ago the water temperature in the Mashpee River was 46 degrees, and today it i
36 degrees,
. Committee Reports
Fresh Water—William Taylor
Mashpee wal eby Lake Management Committee— Bill was not present for the Last
meeting so there is no report.
i Page
