Mr. Baker would like <br /> efforts to be rade in the 1 ash ee Fiver and not get into the <br /> entire Bair which could then be too big to handle. The Commission <br /> welcomed any help from the residents to cone up with solutions <br /> to this problem. Tony Fiorentini from Barberry grillage suggested <br /> the Commission - write an Article for the next town meeting to <br /> seek funds for the dredging of the Mashpee liver, and residents <br /> could help by voting their approval. Stephanie Jones volunteered <br /> to help Mr. York gather samples for fecal coliform counts. <br /> Mr. York noted that identifying the source of the- fecal coliform <br /> and nitrogen contamination and then elimination of those sources <br /> would seed the cleanup of the Diver. Mr. York cited <br /> re ommendat,ions from a- 1991 study by K-v Associates , to control <br /> road runoff with catch basins and require denitrification systems <br /> for sewage systems . -Subsequently, catch basins were installed <br /> on Route 28 in 1993 by the State, and federal funding through <br /> grant to install more basins has been approved but not yet <br /> received. K-V also recommended maintenance dredging to increase <br /> the flushing rate in the River. Mr. York noted that dredging <br /> would help if a substantial amount of muck is removed,, a costly <br /> endeavor , otherwise the silt will fill back in. wBIFF has <br /> received federal grant -funding- to - build alternative septic <br /> systems and study their performance. iashpee ' s Harbo'r Management <br /> Plan includes dredging, and Mr. Homeyer noted that he would <br /> like to see that Plan updated. - Mr. Hanks concluded by suggesting <br /> that a plan' be worked out through the Coastal Resou-rce Management <br /> Committee to deal with the bacterial problem and the long-tern <br /> nitrogen contamination. <br /> MINUTE : _ The Minutes of July 3 , 1995 were accepted with the <br /> following corrections; <br /> P. 2 , (replace) "Falmo th" .with "Mashpee River and Shoestring <br /> Bay IT <br /> . . , replace "useful" with "useable' <br /> CORRESPONDENCE: Nor. Mr. Ellis reported that signs <br /> were installed at three locations ,. the Bridge, Popponesset Spit, <br /> and Ockway Bair. The signs indicate "NoSwimming" and "No <br /> Parking. " Patrols have been going well . Mr. -Ellis counted <br /> + .boats per hour on the water. 1r. Lund' s and Mr. Homeyer' s <br /> boats are running fine.
