•
MASHPEE TOWN HALL BUILDING COMMITTEE
!Minutes for April 19, 1995
Page
Jim asked all members if they had any comments regarding the $1.5 million proposal,
to address them to either Jim or Tadhg. Tadhgrs fax number is 1 423-2939.
The Committee members moved location to attend the CIP Committee meeting, which
was just being called to order. After the CIP Committee conducted some regular
business, Chairperson Pill Hauck opened the floor for discussion regarding the Town
Hall Building renovation. He started that since the CIP Committee had already voted to
approve the $1.5 million recommendation, mendartion, he wanted for the CIP Committee to discuss
whether or not they wanted to rescind or repeal their vote. Jim Vaccaro addressed the
CIP Committee. He began by giving them ar brief historical to bring therm up to date to
where the Torn Hall situation was at now. He stated hover, beginning in 1991, the Town
has looked at eveal other sites for a possible Torun Hall until 1992. At that time the
Selectmen agreed that they wanted to keep the location of the Torn Hall in the Samuel
G. Davis school. At ar Town meeting last May, the Torun authorized hiring an architect
to do ar feasibility study to determine if it was feawsible and the Selectmen asked to be
given some type of idea ghat it would cost and ghat could be done for that cost. Tardhg
Sweeney came in with a recommendation that would include such items as the
systems, the roof, the meeting room, and the elimination of the portables. The next
t
step forward would be for the Town Hall Building Committee to select an architect to
proceed to the design phase. He started that the estimate that carne in to do the
complete project was $3.1 million. He stated that the Torn Hall Building Committee
was going forward and making a recommendation to the Selectmen for ar two phase
project and to proceed forward with phase one at this time at a cost of $1.5 million. Jim
described what items phase one would cover. He stated that the Committee believed
that they could do this for the $1.5 million. This would meet the space needs for a
minimum of 10 years by awdding an additional 5,000 square feet of office space. Some
questions were posed regarding wham extras were included in-the $1.5 million and what
was the cost of doing just the essentials. There was a lengthy discussion of hover this
would impact the Town budget and where possible additional funds could come from.
The CIP then decided to prioritize the capital budget items before discussing this matter
any further. There was no motion to rescind or repeal the vote for the $1.5 million
proposal recommendation.
As the CIP Committee had roved onto another subject, the Town Hall Building
Committee members ers relo awted back to their original meeting room. Jim arcked all
members if it was their understanding that as there was no motion from the CIP
Committee to rescind or repeal their original vote for the $1.5 million proposal
recommendation, mendation, that the original vote still stood and the Committee could proceed with
their plans to present their recommendation to the Selectman at the Torn Meeting on
May 1, 1995. All members were in agreement.
Flay Martini motioned for the meeting to adjourn at 515p.m. C.L. seconded the
motion, whi h was carried by a unanimous vote.
Respectfully submitted by:
Brenda L.
