follow up with Mr. Collins. Mr. Horner spoke with Don Lincoln in Falmouth who indicated that it was difficult
to acquire the one space for Veterans, and suggested that a rolling sign was a concession that diluted the
meaning of a Veteran specific parking place. Mr. Collins had indicated that there would be no parking set aside
at the beach where there were only 82 parking spaces, with the sale of 1000 beach stickers. Focus will be on
one parking space at Town Hall, Major Quilty drafted a letter of support to the Committee, which he will be
presenting to the 15 districts, along with Mr. Botello's letter. Mr. Horner noted that Mr. Quilty was also
interested in meeting with Tribal members. There was consensus to develop a proposal and provide Mr. Collins
with the data he requested.
Child Care for Town Meeting-The Chair indicated that no reservations had been received for childcare
yet, but that an article appeared in the paper, in Ms. DeBoer's report and on Mashpee Messaging. Ms. DeBoer
stated that it would be included in an email home two more times before Town Meeting. Ms. Doyle inquired
about activities ideas for the children. Ms. Wilson suggested puzzles, coloring books, arts and crafts. Ms.
Johnson-Graham suggested board games, movies and a quiet area, active options were also recommended by
Ms. DeBoer. Ms. Doyle inquired whether the deadline should be extended and there was consensus to do so.
Ms. Johnson-Graham suggested offering the spaces until they were filled.
MOTION: Ms. Doyle made a motion to move the deadline to May 3, or until filled. Ms.Johnson-
Graham seconded the motion. All voted unanimously.
The Chair suggested adding a challenge to Mashpee Messaging that young voters attend Town Meeting, in
addition to the older voters. Ms. Johnson-Graham suggested also offering assistance with homework and
suggested when kids were being signed up, information could be acquired regarding the type of activities that
would be of interest. Ms. Doyle confirmed that she had drafted a waiver to be completed, including special
notes. Mr. Collins had approved the proposal and his office confirmed that the waiver was sufficient. Ms.
Doyle read the hold harmless. Ms. Wilson recommended Town Counsel review the document. Ms. DeBoer
stated that the adults, as Town employees, would be covered, but could consult with Town Counsel. Ms.
DeBoer noted that high school seniors eligible to vote would be encouraged to also attend Town Meeting. The
Chair added that the League of Women Voters were doing the same.
MIDC Brochure Subcommittee-Ms. Doyle reported that there were no updates from last time, but that
conversation would continue. The Chair confirmed that, while compiling the references, she had utilized the
publication from the Chamber of Commerce and liked the idea of the subcommittee meeting with Mary Lou
Palumbo. Ms. Waterman suggested that it be clarified that the MIDC was a town committee, inquiring whether
the brochure was intended to explain the role of the MIDC or a resource to new residents. Ms. DeBoer
suggested that a separate brochure should explain the who and what of the MIDC. The Chair stated that the
brochure was a work in progress. Ms. Doyle suggested that the purpose was for someone in Mashpee seeking
involvement opportunities, though understood the potential for exclusion. The Chair suggested the intent of the
resources depicting a more welcoming community, with a separate resource guide for where to go for help.
Community Awareness/Diversity Campaign Subcommittee-After further consideration Ms. Wilson
suggested changing the prompt from "I can help everyone feel respected and valued in Mashpee by . . ."to
"What does diversity in Mashpee mean to me?" Ms. Wilson felt that the initial prompt could be interpreted as
implying that people may not feel valued or respected in Mashpee. Ms. Waterman agreed that the first
statement implied a problem. Ms. Wilson suggested that the new question could create an opportunity to learn.
Ms. Nadeau suggested the inclusion of the Committee's description along with the activity would be fine,
referencing the original "I can" statement. Ms. Doyle liked the theme of embracing diversity in Mashpee. Ms.
DeBoer suggested"I can embrace diversity in Mashpee by . . ." adding that the reality was that not everyone
felt respected or valued, adding that it could be challenging and Mr. Horner agreed that not everyone felt
respected. Mr. Horner inquired what was meant by"Inclusion" and Ms. Brown stated that diversity was a state
and inclusion was an action. There was further discussion about the timeline for the activity.
