on the Lake. A newsletter will be issued shortly by the Lake Conservation Committee updating
this and other matters. No other fresh water matters were reported
Popponesset Bay Area: The dredging of the Poppy channel still needs to be completed. Current
plan is for it to be worked on and completed Wednesday 4/10 - Friday 4/12.
Waquoit Bay Area: Little observed activity. All is normal
WaterQuality: Don reported that the training session for testing will be done on 6/26 at 3:OOpm
at Ockway Bay. He is still working to determine the 4 dates for the testing. Don also reports that
he is working with Brian Howes to get the presentation on 2018 results done before the testing
begins this year. He is targeting the June timeframe. A mass email was sent out to the entire
testing team to notifying them of the upcoming season. The email also contained the current list
of testing sites, boat captains and crews and a request for any updates/changes Don needs to
be apprised on.
Sewer: it was reported that funding articles were pulled out of the warrant. Ken will send a note
to Selectman Gottlieb, WaterWays liaison, requesting a status. The Waterways Commission
does not have representation on this committee at this time. A Commission representative
should be assigned as our liaison to this committee.
Public Access: The Ockway parking lot is close to being black topped. This will be followed by
parking lot line painting and landscaping. Ken brought up the issue that notwithstanding the
improvements we still may be faced with parking limitations and therefore the possible need for
an overflow parking area.
Waterways Improvement: The Waquoit Channel Extension project is at the point of doing
surveys, defining areas to be dredged and getting engineering design work that we can then
submit for permitting. It was reported that the Hyannis Marina has its own dredging group and
has a site for dumping dredge material. They are interested in working on our projects. We still
need to develop an overall project plan for this project. Ken will work with Gregg Fraser to
develop a grant application to be submitted to the appropriate bodies i.e. Selectmen, Town
Manager. Gregg also suggested we consider a joint grant application with the Town of Falmouth
to Mass Works for the Waquoit Channel Extension Project. He believes the state will look
favorably on such a joint application. Ken stated that he, Gregg and Dick will work towards that
goal. Ken stated that the Waterways Commission does have funds set aside for engineering
and dredging. Ken will set up a meeting with the Town Planner, Accountant as another step
forward on this project. Ken discussed the challenges to dredging projects for many Cape
Towns due to problems that County has had with its boats and dredge piping. We did get an
extension for the project and as noted hope to have it done by the end of this week. We need to
get the shoal out of the Channel to facilitate safe passageways. Ken further reported that the
Little River dredge and post survey is completed. He also reports that the County is in the
process of contracting with a company to do all towns' pre & post surveys at a reduced price.
NewBusiness: None
Adjournment-A motion was made by Ken to adjourn, 2nd by Tim Leedham an- meeti
adjourned 10:30am.
