Conservation Commission Minutes
Thursday, March 14, 2019
Mashpee Town Hall
Ockway Meeting Room
Present: Dale McKay, Thomas O'Neil, Charles Dalton, Brad Sweet
Also Present: Conservation Agent Andrew McManus
CALL MEETING TO ORDER: 6:00 p.m.
Chairman Dale McKay opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m.
PRE/POST-HEARING AGENDA:
Minutes: Approve February 28, 2019 Minutes
Motion: Mr. O'Neill moved to approve the minutes of February 28, 2019,
seconded by Mr. Dalton. Vote 3-0-1
Discussion: John (Jack) Fitzsimmons memorial ideas (Former Chair of the Conservation
Commission)
Brad Sweet gave an update on the Jack Fitzsimmons memorial and stated he met with
representatives from the New Seabury Homeowners' Association. He noted Jack had a home on
Fells Pond and Jack wanted to make sure the pond was well maintained. The idea the
representatives are suggesting is there is one large beach that serves all of the people from Fells
Pond Village which could be carved out into the woods to position a bench with a brass plaque. We
know his family will be in the area in April. We are out pricing benches and plaques and then we wil
figure out how we will honor him and make sure it is done right and also involve his family. The
Agent said once we know the amount, we can use funds from the revolving account which in the
past has paid for other memorials.
Motion: Mr. Sweet moved the Conservation Commission reserve up to $1,000 for a proper
memorial for Jack Fitzsimmons to come from the revolving account of the Conservation
Commission, seconded Mr. O'Neill. Vote 4-0
The Agent noted that they will also be looking at naming one of the pollinator gardens after Jack to
get something on town land as well.
HEARINGS:
6:00 Lelane E. Kornfeld & Anne M. Walus, 37 Fiddler Crab Lane. Proposed
removal of four hazardous trees. RDA
