Mashpee - Wakeby LakeManagement
Committee
May 28,2019
7:30 PM
Mashpee Town Hall
Meeting called by: Debi McManus
Type of meeting: Monthly
Secretary Barbara B. Nichols
Attendees: Members: Brian Mauro, Barbara Nichols
Guests:
The minutes of the March 26, 2019 meeting were accepted as written after a motion by Brian Mauro and
second by Barbara Nichols.
Agenda topics
[Agenda topic 1] Lake level/River outflow
Discussion: Barbara took the lake measurements on April 1st and 15"' and they were 55.6 and 55.8ft.
above sea level. There were 19 and 19.5 inches of water flowing over the board closest to the lake and 14
and 13.5 inches of water in the stream by the stairs. Precipitation continues at a high level, with Barbara
reporting 6 inches of rain in her rain gauge from mid-March to mid-April.
Barbara reported seeing a continuous run of herring swimming upstream into the lake. Drew had placed a
2 X4 by one of the cage boards to try and slow down the water velocity. He also reported pulling some
boards "on the other side"which he will continue to monitor to help prevent further rise in the lake level.
Lake levels were also taken on May 1st and 15t" and were 55.9 and 55.8 ft. above sea level. There were
20.5 and 19.5 inches of water flowing over the board closest to the lake, and 12 and 20 inches of water in
the stream by the stairs. On the 15t",the 2X4 had been removed as well as some boards downstream.
Again, there was just over 6.1 inches of rain in Barbara rain gauge mid-April to mid-May. All
measurements were reported to Drew McManus in Conservation.
Conclusions: The lake remains high with high precipitation falling.
[Agenda topic 2] Harborm, aster Position Update
Discussion: Jeffrey Smith has been appointed as the new Harbormaster and is expected to take over the
position about June 3"t. He has a background with the Coast Guard, John Santangelo, acting harbormaster,
is checking the mooring list and issuing new moorings as it has been a while since new moorings were
issued.
Conclusions: Jeffrey Smith will soon be the new harbormaster.
