[Agenda topic 3] Spring Newsletter
Discussion: Barbara presented the newsletter with articles on Lowell Holly, the new harbormaster, the
2019 bass tournaments, and a reminder not to feed the waterfowl, as well as a request for new members.
Conclusions: The newsletter is nearly finished.
[Agenda opic 4]Wakeby Islands Ownership
Discussion: Sam Houston had an article in the April 12th edition of the Mashpee Enterprise noting that the
ownership of Keith Jefferson and Cleveland Islands in Wakeby will soon change. Now owned by the
Andrew J. Lipnoski Trust in California, the family plans to transfer the ownership of the islands to the
Native Land Conservancy, a nonprofit, launched in 2012. Although the conservancy has no formal
connection with the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, the Board of Directors is made up of tribal citizens. They
plan to offer"respectful public access"to the islands, even canoe tours of the area, and to protect the
islands into the future. They will partner with the Trustees of Reservations on the conservation restriction.
Barbara emailed Andrew Gottlieb regarding the accessibility and policing of the islands, and he reported
there will be a meeting after the change in ownership after July 1St
Conclusions: The islands in Wakeby will now be owned by The Native conservancy and conservations
restrictions monitored by Lowell Holly.
[Agenda topic S] Lowell Holly Reservation
Discussion: Winslow Dresser emailed an article for our spring newsletter. They plan to have the swim
areas open only to non- motorized boats again this year. Lowell Holly seasonal parking lot is now open 9-
5 until Labor Day. Debi mentioned that she read on the Facebook Page that someone's vehicle had been
broken into in the Sandwich Rd. lot and money stolen.
Conclusions: Lowell Holly's management plan again includes restricting motorized boats from the swim
area.
(Agenda Topic 6)TwArticles pass/Town Meeting
Discussion: At the Town meeting on May 6th, two articles passed that this committee felt strongly about.
Article 2 allowed the transfer of Rinds from the waterways account to cover the cost of removal of sand
that has been piling up due to power boat loading. This will make safer ramp boating access.
Article 19 will upgrade a 30 hour per week Waterways assistant to a 40 hour per week position. It is
hoped that the increase in hours will allow more coverage on Mashpee Wakeby lake. Brian and Debi
mentioned they had seen harbormaster coverage on the lake this past Memorial weekend.
Conclusions: Articles were passed to improve safety at the ramp, and hopefully increase Harbormaster
coverage.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:54 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,

Barbara B. Nichols
