Regarding the image on the cover, in an effort to <br /> connect with people, it seemed appropriate to use a photograph of people, which Ms. Doyle would <br /> coordinate. Ms. Johnson-Graham suggested a photo of people on the beach by the water, describing <br /> Mashpee as"Land Near the Great Water." Ms. Waterman suggested identifying individuals that <br /> would be representative of the purpose of the Committee. <br /> Community Awareness/Diversity Campaign Subcommittee-Ms. Wilson reported that the <br /> event was pushed back to the fall and an update would be provided at the next meeting. <br /> Child Care October Town Meeting-There was consensus that information should continue to <br /> be made available to encourage younger attendees and families to participate in Town Meeting. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Election of Officers-The Chair inquired whether the Committee wished to wait to elect <br /> officers when more members of the Committee were present. It was determined that,with a quorum, <br /> there was consensus to move forward. It was also noted that Committee membership reappointments <br /> would occur in July. The Chair had asked for volunteers or nominations for Chair and Co-Chair. <br /> MOTION: Ms. Johnson-Graham nominated Marie Stevenson as Chairperson. Ms.Brown <br /> seconded the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> MOTION: Ms. Stevenson nominated Winnie Johnson-Graham as Co-Chair. Ms. Brown <br /> seconded the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> The Chair referenced the Town Report and dates of appointments, adding that the list of names was not <br /> accurate. Ms. Waterman noted that the list would have reflected the 2018 Committee and suggested <br /> the MIDC Town web page list should be current and accurate, but likely did not list term dates. It was <br /> suggested that the term list be acquired from Town Clerk. It was unknown whether the membership <br /> terms had been staggered. Ms. Waterman agreed to follow up with Town Clerk for more detailed <br /> information. It was also clarified that the new list and report would be submitted for January 2020. <br /> Questionnaire Results-The Chair had provided questionnaires to Committee members as a <br /> means to assess the progress of the Committee. Responses were shared with the Committee. <br /> Expectations? An opportunity to work on issues of concern and with other like-minded people; <br /> involvement in community and bringing people together; no expectations; counter negativity <br /> nationwide and contribute at a local level; provide Tribal education and bring people together <br /> Satisfaction? Working on subcommittees to allow more work to be completed; discussions <br /> were productive; challenges of Town committee combining Town employees with the public; has <br /> taken time but now on the right track; appreciation for and inclusion of diversity in Mashpee <br /> Do Differently? Consider partnering with other organizations for activities; good <br /> communication and direction; better information on how best to operate and limitations of a Town <br /> Committee; reach out to other organizations to improve networking opportunities <br /> Accomplishments for Next Year? Hosting or partnering a town wide event; events that connect <br /> the community and establish parking for Veterans; continue forward movement with initiatives; <br /> development of public forums to address mission categories with knowledgeable speakers and <br /> 2 <br />
