Status of bookkeeping by Town regarding registration fees
The Town Manager's office has been very good taking the applications and the checks and depositing
the registration fees. Virginia will check to see if the committee has access to the monies deposited.
OLD BUSINESS:
Cape Cod Community Garden Network—No Update
Continued discussion of publicity and newspaper articles—the Board
There was a discussion on contacting the Mashpee Enterprise Newspaper to get some publicity for the
gardens. Virginia suggested contacting Hanna Schuster from the Enterprise and have her do an article
about we are now open and tie it in with other things that are happening in Mashpee. She will be
contacting Richard DeSorgher, Mashpee Historical Commission, to see if he can come up with some
ideas. Also, the members discussed having a get together during harvesting time for the gardeners.
NEW BUSINESS:
Community Garden improvements and schedule
The members discussed contacting several agencies to see if they would be interested in one of the
garden plots i.e. May Institute Life Center, Veterans Organizations, Wampanoag Museum, Boys and
Girls Club, Kiwanis Club and Mashpee Senior Center. They also discussed creating a brochure or flier.
Irene will try her hand at a flier.
Repair of garden bed borders (Anthony) and request to Town/DPW to do a few border
replacements.
At Anthony Oliver's suggestion Virginia stated she would contact Wayne Taylor, Assistant Town
Manager,to see if he could make arrangements for DPW to replace the rotted and potentially
dangerous border edging on a few of the plots.
Review letter of introduction for Board use when requesting in-kind donations and Board member
assignments
The members reviewed the letter of introduction for the Board to use when requesting in-kind
donations and made a few minor changes. The Chair's signature and office telephone number will be
used and the donations will be followed up with a thank you letter. Mohamad suggested having the
thank you letter all prepared and ready for signature by the Town Manager's Office.
ADDITIONAL TOPICS: This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably
anticipate would be discussed.
Stephanie inquired about the Committee reaching out to Russell Norton from the Cape Cod Extension
Service regarding volunteers from the Master Gardeners Her question is are the volunteers going to
get education credits because if they don't get credits they may not want to volunteer. Virginia will
follow up with Russell.
2
