Q: Are you able to perform extra work the Board requires? <br /> A:Yes. <br /> Q: Are you willing to participate in the shellfish volunteer progam? <br /> A: Yes <br /> Q: How do you feel about the town's shellfish propagation program designed to help the town's estuaries? <br /> A: As it is today, we are above where we were 3-5 years ago, nowhere to go but up. <br /> Peter Thomas made a motion to recommend Richard Cook to the Board of Selectmen at the July 22nd meeting. <br /> Bill Holmes seconded. <br /> All voted unanimously in favor. <br /> Review of Mashpee Shellfish Regulations(cont'd) <br /> Peter Thomas suggested we hold a special meeting during offseason, where this is strictly all we discuss. Holmes <br /> suggested possibly hold this meeting in November. All agreed to hold a special meeting in the future. <br /> Public Access/Family Area Designations <br /> Darryl Christensen had nothing to report. Ashley Fisher came up with a map to see about family designated areas. <br /> Opened it up for discussion, basically she wants to designate Mashpee Neck Landing as a Family Shellfishing Area to <br /> prevent the commercial harvest of oysters in Mashpee. This way offenders could be properly cited and the citations will <br /> hold up in court. <br /> Re: Family Shellfishing permit holders and Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal card holders cannot take oysters from any family <br /> designated area for the purposes of making a profit. Commercial Harvest of oysters in prohibited in the Town of <br /> Mashpee, Mashpee Neck landing is a seeding site for the oysters that area grown in the Mashpee River. Making <br /> Mashpee Neck Landing a Family area would ensure that furture Mashpee Permit holders and Tribal members can <br /> continue to utilize the Town's oyster seeding program for consumption purposes only. <br /> Peter Thomas wanted to make sure we're not taking property away from someone who is making a living. Fisher stated <br /> that the area is pretty much an artificial monoculture of oysters produced by the Mashpee Department of Natural <br /> Resources in the mapped area presented, Mashpee does not offer a commercial oyster industry other than those <br /> privately aquaculture. Several other potential areas were briefly discussed. Thomas said we should talk about this next <br /> month so we can get more input. <br /> New Business: <br /> The Brave Act <br /> Recent legislation affecting municipalities, basically every city or town can issue permits to Veterans at no cost and if <br /> they choose to go to another town, they only have to pay the resident fee. <br /> Family Area Designations <br />
