Constable. The moratorium will remain in place until the Aquaculture Regulations and mapping system/waitlist is
approved by the Board of Selectmen. Bohnenberger is scheduled to be heard by the Board of Selectmen on July 22 for
his proposed Aquaculture License relocation in Ockway Bay.
Re: Offender,Ashley Fisher went to the Magistrate. There was a fine of$750.00 and she recommended the
Magistrate to suspend license indefinitely.
Old Business:
Aquaculture License Area Availability/Moratorium
Fisher said we need to update maps to indicate where people in the future can apply for a Shellfish Aquaculture
License.
Also there is a need to update the Shellfish Aquaculture License Application form to reflect what the Massachusetts
Division of Marine Fisheries require in their application process.
Cook asked about timeframes. Fisher replied as long as it takes, I would like it to be completed within a year.
Cook asked if this will include people who already have grants. Holmes wanted to clarify if we were talking
about expanding existing, or additional. Thomas said we want to take existing grant holders into consideration without
showing preferential treatment. Holmes agreed.
Fisher said the end goal is to have available areas mapped out that are deemed areas of least conflict to both
residents and the Natural Resources alike. These areas will also be strategically placed in areas that are in need of TMDL
compliance and will complement the town's shellfish component of the Comprehensive Watershed Nitrogen.
Management Plan.
Recommendation for new Shellfish Commission member
Peter Thomas interviewed Richard Cook:
Q: Have you served on the Shellfish Commission before?
A: I have, roughly 2 years ago I sat on the commission.
Q:Why do you want to be on the Commission?
A: A representative from the Aquaculture Industry should be on the board. 1 think I bring a lot of good insight to
shellfishing in general.
Q: Do you have Shellfish experience?
A: Since the late 70's.
Holmes followed up by asking: Digging or just farming? Cook answered: Started commercial shellfishing in
1980s.
Q: Are you familiar with Mashpee Waterways and Department of Shellfish projects they have going on?
A: Yes.
Q: Can you remain unbiased on the Board?
A: Absolutely.
