The meeting resumed in the Conference Room, and there was a discussion of the Library Director's <br /> report which included: <br /> • Exploring options for expanding the Library's public operating hours within the confines of the <br /> existing budget and staffing. If Mashpee reaches a population of 15,000, the Library will be <br /> required to operate 50 hours per week in order to achieve state certification. The Library is <br /> currently open 42 hours per week. <br /> MOTION: Sandra Horsman motioned to authorize the Library Director to explore options to <br /> expand Library hours. Motion was seconded by Ann Macdonald. <br /> Yes-6. VOTE: <br /> Roll Call Vote: Sandra Horsman, yes Amanda Hall, yes <br /> Virginia Scharfenberg, yes Mary LeClair, yes <br /> Ann Macdonald, yes Joan Lyons, yes <br /> Policy Review & Updates <br /> • Discussion of a recent advisement by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners that <br /> public libraries that make meeting rooms available to outside groups should allow programs <br /> and forums that include political candidates within the parameters of state guidelines <br /> concerning fundraising, financing, and ethics. <br /> MOTION: Joan Lyons motioned to amend the Library Meeting Room Policy to allow political <br /> programs and forums for candidates. Motion was seconded by Virginia Scharfenberg. <br /> Yes-6. The consensus was that following should be included if possible: representative from <br /> Mashpee Town Hall (Town Manager selects representative), Mashpee Schools (Superintendent selects <br /> representative), Friends of the Mashpee Library(President of Friends selects representative), <br /> representative Council on Aging(Director, Lynne Waterman),representative from Boys and Girls <br /> Club (Executive Director, Ruth Provost),representative from Mashpee business community(Chamber <br /> Executive Director to be consulted for guidance). Other potential suggestions included individual <br /> community members,but need to keep the working group to a manageable size was noted. <br /> Communications <br /> Mary LeClair said that there have not been any recent communications from the Selectmen or the <br /> Finance Committee. <br /> 2 <br />
