TownofMashpee jfistorical Commission <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> 'Anil Telephone - (508) 539-1438 <br /> MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Meeting— June 13, 2019 <br /> The Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order by Ava Costello, Chair, at <br /> 4:10 pm. <br /> Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Rosemary Burns Love, Richard DeSorgher, Nancy <br /> Soderberg and Brian Weeden <br /> Commissioner not Present: Joan Tavares-Avant (excused absence due to rainy conditions) and <br /> Brian Hyde <br /> Minutes from April and May accepted, motion by Richard, second Rosemary, four yes, Brian W <br /> abstained <br /> Richard reported that he brought up the question Joan had regarding a tree planted in <br /> memory/honor of Dorothy Cash, in Community Park, with the War memorial Committee, <br /> including several members of the original Park Committee. No one remembers or is aware of <br /> any such tree planting. <br /> Committee, Richard motion, Brian W second, voted to reappoint Joan to the Historical <br /> Commission for the next three-year term; unanimously voted to reappoint. <br /> Richard reported on the Speaker Series. All five monthly programs were very successful and. <br /> well received. Attendance range from over 100 for the Mashpee 9 program to 28 for the April <br /> Women's Suffrage program. Overall program average = 65 people. The June Wilsons Grove <br /> program with Dr. George East was also well received with 68 people attending, many of whom <br /> were from the Wilson's Grove and Popponesset communities. Thanks was given to Joan and <br /> Ava for help with refreshments served at the talks and the Mashpee Library for their co- <br /> sponsorship, support, and set-up for each of the programs. <br /> War Memorial Committee recently met with VHB. DPW may start initial landscaping, drainage <br /> and path construction as early as this summer. Draft copy of all current veteran names going on <br /> the monument is now posted on the town website under the Historical Commission site. Thanks <br /> to Wayne Taylor for setting it up. Newspaper article was also published in the Mashpee <br /> Enterprise. List of names has been sent to the Tribe for their social media and publications. <br /> Additional copies will be given to veterans and to the senior center to get the list of names out to <br /> as many people as possible. Committee members were asked to brainstorm possible wording <br /> to go one the center of the monument <br />
