Town of Mashpee f-Iistorical C'onnmfission <br /> 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> Telephone - (508) 539-1438 <br /> MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION <br /> Minutes of Meeting— July 11, 2019 <br /> The Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order by Ava Costello, Chair, at <br /> 4:15 pm. <br /> Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Rosemary Burns Love, Richard DeSorgher, Nancy <br /> Soderberg and Joan Tavares-Avant <br /> Commissioners not Present: Brian Hyde and Brian Weeden <br /> Minutes from the June meeting were accepted; motion moved by Richard and seconded by <br /> Rosemary. <br /> Richard reported that the Schoolhouse will be open every Monday from June 17th through <br /> October 14th, 2019. He and Nancy will be sharing the responsibilities acting as the <br /> Schoolmaster on alternating weeks. They have already had quite a few visitors. One problem <br /> arose last Monday when a bus with about 30 teachers showed up at about 2:30 in the <br /> afternoon, with no prior appointment. Nancy handled the group as best she could with their <br /> limited schedule. Nancy gave Linda Coombs Richard's email address so that we can try to set <br /> up a scheduled visit for next summer. <br /> Richard will take the updated MOSH trifold handout around to the MCOC, Senior Center, Town <br /> Hall and Mashpee Public Library so visitors can pick them up, find out about the Schoolhouse, <br /> and be able to visit or schedule a future tour. <br /> Frank Lord is still trying to set up a meeting of the Mashpee One Room Schoolhouse <br /> Preservation Council which needs to happen in order to appoint Richard DeSorgher as <br /> Schoolmaster and elect a new President of the MOSH Preservation Council. Richard has <br /> assumed most of the responsibilities of the Schoolmaster, assisted by Nancy Soderberg, at the <br /> present time. <br /> Richard made a motion that since the Mashpee Historical Commission was founded in 1969 we <br /> have an Open House to celebrate 50 years, possibly on the October 14'holiday, which is now <br /> designated as Indigenous Peoples Day in Mashpee. Joan seconded the motion agreeing that it <br /> would give people a chance to come to the Archives for a visit to find out more about us. <br /> Rosemary returned several items to the Archives, and in doing so, reviewed items that several <br /> of the Commissioners had borrowed.
