Marie Stevenson, Gail Wilson, Lynne Waterman, Louis Horner, Katherine <br /> Brown <br /> Also Present: Human Resource Director Kim Landry <br /> Absent: Winnie Johnson-Graham,JoAnn Nadeau, Patty DeBoer, William Baker(Non-Voting <br /> Member), Cheyenne Hendricks (Non-Voting Member), Selectman Liaison John Cotton <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was opened by the Chair. Upon the arrival of Ms. Brown,there was a quorum present. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Mohamed Zefzaf, recommended by Effie Purdy, attended today's meeting with a possible interest in <br /> the Committee and the idea of developing peace and diversity among people. Mr. Zefzaf emigrated to <br /> the U.S. and was a teacher of ESL and writing for 30 years and a 21 year resident of Mashpee. Sue <br /> Wilson, Chair of the Pride Committee,had also expressed interest in the Committee. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES July 9,2019 <br /> Changes were recommended to the minutes. <br /> There was consensus to approve the minutes as corrected. <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> None at this time <br /> COMMUNICATIONS& CORRESPONDENCE <br /> None at this time <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Veterans Parking-Mr. Horner reported that he had redrafted the proposal based on previous <br /> Committee meeting discussion, but did not present the new version due to the tone of the meeting. The <br /> Chair was present at the meeting with the Town Manager, along with Major Quilty, Ms. Landry and <br /> Assistant Town Manager Wayne Taylor. The Chair acknowledged the time and efforts of Mr. Horner, <br /> who had worked hard toward acquiring a Veterans' parking space at Town Hall. The Chair noted that <br /> a number of reasons were expressed why the parking space could not be allocated for Veterans' <br /> parking, including the shortage of spaces currently available at Town Hall. Mr. Taylor proposed <br /> identifying two spaces across the street at the site of the Veteran's Memorial. The Chair was <br /> appreciative of the alternative option and followed up with Mr. Taylor,who could become a point of <br /> contact with Mr. Collins. Mr. Horner stated that he had been invested in identifying a Veteran parking <br /> space to recognize Veterans for their service, rather than a need expressed for parking availability. Mr. <br /> Horner added that he had charted the availability of parking, during different times of the day, noting <br /> that over a month time frame,there was typically no more than 8 of the 26 spaces taken. Mr. Horner <br /> suggested that acquiring parking across the street could be a start,with a long term goal of acquiring a <br /> parking space at Town Hall, located beneath the American flag.
