Town oWashtpee' <br /> \F(U11N�,I <br /> 16 Great Neck Rood North <br /> Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649 <br /> Telephone- (508)539-1438 <br /> MIX <br /> MASHPEE HISTORICAL COMMISSION <br /> Meeting Minutes of January 3, 2019 <br /> The Mashpee Historical Commission meeting was called to order at 4:08pm (EST) by <br /> Chairwoman Ava Costello. <br /> Commissioners Present: Ava Costello, Richard DeSorgher, Brian Hyde, Nancy Soderber, <br /> Rosemary Burns Love and Brian Weeders <br /> Commissioners Absent: Joan Tavares-Avant <br /> Ava welcomed new commissioner Brian Weeden to the group and appointed Mr Weeden as <br /> interim note taker while Ann Graham, Sr. Clerk is away. <br /> Motion made by Brian Hyde and 2nd by Rosemary Burns Love to approve meeting minutes from <br /> November 8, 2018 Commission Meeting. Motion passed with 5 in-favor and 1 recusal from <br /> Brian Weeden. <br /> Presentation from Kathleen Mahoney, Director of Mashpee Public Library and request the <br /> Historical Commissions vote on CPC request,. They would like to use CPC funds to digitize the <br /> local "Mashpee Enterprise" and provide the material.online for the Town. Brian Hyde <br /> mentioned the CPC guidelines outlined in Massachusetts General Law; Mass 44 b, section 2. <br /> Rosemary recommends support for the project and explained to the Commission that Mashpee <br /> did not have its own edition until 1994. Ava questioned why the enterprise did not think of <br /> this and prior to 94' it was just the Falmouth Enterprise. Brian Hyde wanted the Commission <br /> to vote if the Enterprise was valuable or historical, The Mashpee Enterprise is either part of <br /> the culture or history of the Town? Richard suggested looking at it now but two-hundred years <br /> from now is it going to be historical in the twentieth century? <br /> Motion made by Rosemary Burns Love and 2nd by Richard DeSorgher to support the Mashpee <br /> Enterprise as being part of the culture and history of the Town. Motion passed unanimously by <br /> all present. <br /> Brian Hyde brings forward two other request before the Commission, one from the Town Clerk <br /> Deb Dami who has books from the 1900's (1911-1972) she would like digitized. The Town Clerk <br /> sent a email to the Commission on December 3, 2018 with a list of the documents she would <br /> like to work on in this request. The Commission found records from 1834 and would like to see <br /> the earlier books become a priority. Rosemary wants the motion to read "Historically <br /> significant by date" and that all Town documents have a significance to the history and or <br /> culture of the Town of Mashpee. Having stated that the Commission finds that the documents <br /> from 1800's are a priority. The Commission decided to send a letter to CPC and the Town Clerk <br /> office that will be drafted by the Chairwoman Ava Costello. <br /> Motion made by Brian Hyde and 2nd by Rosemary Burns Love that the Commission deems Town <br /> documents significant to the history and culture of the Town.
