TOWN OF MASHPEE
SOUTH CAPE BEACH STATE PARK
ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Minutes from the Meeting of Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Members Present: Members Absent: Also Present:
Jeralyn Smith, Chairman Lance Lambros Perry Ellis, Harbor Master
Frank Connelly, Vice Chairman Gus Frederickson
Steve Pinard Robert Lancaster
Mike Cardeiro
Bill Martiros
Lewis Newell
Carey Murphy
Ben Lofchie
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Jeralyn Smith called the meeting to order at 6:06 PM.
APPROVE MINUTES FROM 5119109 MEETING
A motion was made, seconded and passed to approve as presented the minutes from
the meeting held on 5/19109.
REPORT FROM ALLAN MORRIS, WBNERR
Jeri Smith reported that Allan Morris was unable to attend the meeting, but sent his
report via email. Allan stated that there will be two lifeguards starting on June 20th. The
guards will have Wednesday and Thursday off, working the other 5 days of the week.
Allan's reasoning was that if there is a rain day earlier in the week, they may be re-
scheduled for Wednesday or Thursday. Signs will be posted "Swim at Your Own Risk"
on the days when lifeguards are not on duty.
Collections at the gate start Saturday June 20th. The gate collectors do not start until the
21 st but Allan stated that he will have staff there on the 2&to collect.
Allan reported that he had also refurbished 4 swim buoys from old ones together with
some new parts. They look fine from the beach.
Allan also reported that there were no reports of hunting incidents last season.
Gus Frederick contacted Jeralyn Smith on Tuesday, June 9th, to say that the state won't
have lifeguards at the state beach as of right now unless they can find some. No one
from their applicant files wants to come to the Cape as most are from off-Cape. Gus
voiced concern about emergencies that might occur on the beach with no guards
present.
DISCUSSION AND VOTE ON HUNTING FOR 2009
Carey Murphy reminded the committee that although hunting technically is not allowed,
the State Park has special permission from the State for hunting.
1
