Mashpee Middle School <br /> School Council <br /> Minutes — May 5, 2011 <br /> Attendance: Sheila Arnold, Sue Curtis, Betsy Caldwell, Kevin Frye, Renda Coughlan, <br /> Rewa Melby <br /> The meeting convened at 2:15pm. <br /> Approval of minutes April of 2011 completed. <br /> Old Business <br /> An informational meeting for grade 7 parents was held on April 28, 2011. This meeting <br /> reviewed the proposed itinerary, pricing,behavior contracts and other important <br /> information. This is the first time that preparations for the trip have begun this soon. <br /> Step Up Night will be held on May 23 for grade 6 students at 6:00 in the auditorium. <br /> Students and parents will also visit exhibit tables for extracurricular activities and <br /> departmental tables. Families will also be invited to visit the book fair <br /> Student Handbook that was approved will be voted on May 11 by the school committee. <br /> New Business <br /> The Grade 6 transition will continue with visits to the Quashnet by the principal to go <br /> over summer reading requirements as well as locker usage, technology policies etc. This <br /> will take place on June 13, 2011. <br /> Grade 8 Graduation will take place on June 22 beginning at 7:45 with a breakfast, then <br /> the ceremony and the awards presentations immediately after. Graduation will be <br /> followed by a field day in the afternoon. Grade 7 will also have field day that day. <br /> Grade 8 field trip to Water Wizz on June 21 and the dinner cruise will take place on June <br /> 17, 2011. <br /> Discussion took place about the new web-site and the ability to take polls. The current <br /> poll deals with the amount of time students spend on homework <br /> Grade 7 field trips—June 1 —Museum of Science, June 17—Battleship Cove and <br /> Buttonwood Park <br /> The 10-11 school Improvement Plan was reviewed to measure accomplishments. The <br /> plan will be revisited upon receipt of the MCAS scores, and new goals for the upcoming <br /> year will be explored in September by staff, and then the council in October of 2011. <br /> The council also heard information about proposing to add a homeroom to the day for <br /> students. This would take place between 8:30-8:40 every day. It would provide students <br /> with consistency, and a time to organize themselves for the day with the supervision of a <br /> homeroom teacher. <br /> Finally recommendations from the council included looking into the possibility of <br /> making all calls to the homes for the students who have teacher detentions and office <br /> detentions. <br /> Reminder: This is our last meeting of the school year,meetings will resume in October <br /> with elections taking place the night of the Open House in September. <br /> Motion to adjourn at 3:00 pm <br />
