Mashpee Middle School School Council Minutes — October 7, 2010 Attendance: Sheila Arnold, Patricia Morano, Sue Curtis, Rewa Melby, Kevin Frye, Betsy Caldwell, Kim Daigneault, Kristen Boyd, Ann Bradshaw The meeting convened at 2:15 pm. Approval of the Mach 12, 2009, and September 9, 2010. Introductions—newly elected members were introduced to one another, as well as the introduction of the Community Member—Kevin Frye. Overview of School Council responsibilities was presented by Ann Bradshaw. She also explained the difference in the different organizations and encouraged involvement and continued communication The School Improvement plan draft was reviewed by the council. The three academic goals involving the increase of one half point in all open response MCAS questions was explained. Teachers will now be working on the strategies and ways of meeting these goals. A goal of school culture and the initiation and implementation of the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) was explained. The kick off for this program will be next week with a school-wide assembly. The Washington DC Trip for 81h graders was reviewed. Parent concerns of cafeteria time and only one lunch, students being escorted by teachers to and from the cafeteria were also discussed. It was explained that since the beginning of this format discipline instances have dropped over 8% over the same time period last year. It was further explained that this format allows students more time to eat. The meeting ended at 3:00 pm.
