t,
y i
MAS PEE SEWER CoMNUSSION
TUES AY,JANUARY 21, 1997
SENIOR CENTER
Present: Brad Caff n,Dennis Balzarini, Toni Fudala
Meeting convened at 7:06 p.m.
NflNUTES
' * Dennis made a motion to approve the minutes of December 10, 1996. Toni seconded
the motion. All members were in favor.
Torn distributed information he received from the Ad Hoc Committee on decentralized
wastewater treatment re: history of that committee and minutes of the last meeting(which'fora
attended in Worcester).
Torn does not anticipate having the draft of the wastewater element of the local comprehensive
plan until lurch.
Brad talked to Gloucester who promised to send information but he has not received i .
Tom received a copy of arnstable's draft of Phase II of heir wastewater element of the local
comprehensive plan. It has some good information.
Although title 5 uses an average of to gallons per person per day, they actually calculated it to
be 72 gal per person per day, annual average. It has seasonal peaks.
Barnstable looked at problem areas in the town and them cane up with an analysis of different
types of systems that would work best in those areas.
loclere -has a long track record in Great Britain. However different erent soils and different climates
will produce different results.
The chart that Barnstable created does not attach a dollar figure to the systems. Phase III o
their plan will cost out the solutions. Torn does not have a copy of that.
Barnstable also includes a soils map. Cotuit riar tons NO should be the same as Ma hpee.
Barnstable harbor, village and over the hill into Iy=m*s are all sewered.
The Commission would like to visit the treatment plants in Ma tepee -Mashpee Commons and
willowbend. Toni will try to arrange it for a Saturday. Bran would like to video tape it to show
the public what we have in town,, what the different systems are; to educate the public.
Toni will also contact Stratford Ponds.
Brad would like to send a letter to Wind chime and Fields Point to discuss the possibility of the
Sewer Commission taking over their plants. Torn said when he mentioned it to Doug Storrs, he
said to make a proposal.
