million, not including design services. The project would include several small storage buildings
and equipment needed for maintenance of the synthetic surface.
As potential cost reductions, the lower field improvements and the lighting for the upper fields
would be proposed as bid alternates.
The project does include some accessibility improvements but replacement of the existing
bleachers and announcer's booth in the stadium is not proposed. Replacement would require
addition of an elevator. Addition of permanent restroom facilities are also not proposed. The
Committee discussed whether these exclusions were short sited based on the scope of the
project.
The Committee also discussed the ongoing maintenance of the synthetic fields. The "carpet"
requires replacement every 10-12 years, depending on the use. This cost would be over$1
million.
The final report is due from Gale Associates in mid-December. The report will include not only
the schematic plans of the proposed fields and a preliminary cost estimate, but also ongoing
maintenance costs, comparison of the proposed fields to other comparably-sized schools, and
review of field usage scheduling. Catherine will forward the report to the Committee for
review prior to the next meeting so a recommendation to the CIP Committee can be made.
FY21-FY26 CIP
Final estimates are still being finalized for the projects proposed for FY21. Excluding the DNR
facility and the MMHS fields, the estimate is almost% of the funding amount for all capital
projects in FY20. The Committee will need to prioritize the projects as all may not be funded.
Catherine will forward the final draft of the CIP to the Committee for review prior to the next
meeting.
Next Meeting
December 18, 2019 at 5:30 pm
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Catherine Laurent, DPW Director
2
