8 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 16, 2019 <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Discussion and Approval of the Composition of the Town Seal Committee: <br /> Town Manager Rodney Collins: <br /> Town Manager Rodney C. Collins brought forth a recommended composition of membership for the <br /> establishment of a Town Seal Committee. The seven-member ad hoc advisory committee would <br /> present a proposed Town Seal to be approved by the Board of Selectmen and presented to Town <br /> Meeting for adoption. The members would have the resources available to recognize the culture and <br /> history of the Town of Mashpee to develop a proposal to be appreciated and valued by the Town. <br /> The composition would consist of one Selectman member to serve as Chair, the Administrative <br /> Assistant Terrie Cook who would also perform the duties of recording secretary, the Town Planner <br /> Evan Lehrer,the Library Director Kathleen Mahoney, the School Superintendent Patricia DeBoer, <br /> Historical Commission member Joan Tavares-Avant and a Tribal Council designee to be determined <br /> by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Weeden to accept the recommendation of the Town Seal <br /> Committee, an ad hoc advisory ground with members as identified. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes <br /> Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br /> The Board of Selectmen agreed to place on the agenda of January 6, 2020, the appointment of a <br /> Selectmen representative to the Town Seal Committee. It is hopeful a Tribal Council designee <br /> would be determined prior to this meeting. <br /> Discussion of a Possible May 2020 Warrant Article Banning Alcohol Nips: <br /> The Board of Selectmen discussed the possibility of placing an article on the May 2020 Town <br /> Meeting warrant to ban alcohol nips in the Town of Mashpee. It was agreed Town Counsel would <br /> be consulted, and authorized to draft language if this initiative is supported. <br /> It was also determined the Board of Selectmen would consider maximizing the fine for general <br /> littering. There was consensus to obtain additional information on this matter. <br /> TOWN MANAGER UPDATES <br /> Town of Mashpee/Lopez Land Swap. The even swap of land acreage (3.72) approved by a vote of <br /> the May 2018 Town Meeting is currently in the legislative process. The Board authorized the <br /> Town to petition the General Court to convey the Town owned parcel to Mark and Donna Lopez in <br /> October, 2019. <br />
