3
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
December 2, 2019
Public Comment: (continued)
Terrie Ronack commented on pending litigation with Blue Sky Towers, a matter to be discussed
by the Board of Selectmen in Executive Session. Ms. Ronack requested the Board of Selectmen
cancel the lease as the project was poorly planned and it lies in a residential area, a great
distance from the intended service area,New Seabury and in Popponesset. Ms. Ronack
indicated that cancelling the lease would save public funds on legal fees and if the Red Brook
Road site is no longer a viable option a new system could be designed for New Seabury and for
the Popponesset area. Ms. Ronack indicated the termination of the lease would not encompass
penalties or further liability. The company was also noted to be publicly threating to sue the
Town of Mashpee.
Mary Waygan, Chair of the Planning Board respectfully requested the Board of Selectmen not
go into Executive without the Planning Board, the Special Permit granting authority. Ms.
Waygan indicated the Planning Board has an extensive knowledgeable of the Blue Sky Towers
project which is currently in open litigation. Although the Planning Board has not met as a
board Ms. Waygan urged the Board to not hold an Executive Session on this matter.
150th Anniversary Committee Update: Chair Brian Hyde:
Brian Hyde, Chair of the 150th Anniversary Committee was in attendance to give an overview
of the planning efforts for the Mashpee Sesquicentennial Celebration after Memorial Day
weekend in 2020. Several members of the 150th Anniversary Committee were in attendance to
support plans for the Town's celebration of its 150th Anniversary.
Through the Selectmen's sponsorship of an article, the sum of$50,000 was appropriated at the
May 2019 Town Meeting to be expended under the direction of the Mashpee 150t Anniversary
Committee with approval by the Board of Selectmen.
Highlights of the celebration include the following;
On Thursday, May 28, 2020 a Mashpee Leaders Reception is planned at the MHS cafeteria
from 6-9 p.m. The evening is designed to bring the people of Mashpee together for informal
conversation and to recognize those who have and are serving the community. Past leaders to
recognize include government leaders, public safety officials, educators, environmentalists,
Tribal leaders, business leaders, volunteers and athletes. The catered event would offer light
refreshments. The evening would continue in the auditorium for speeches, stories and songs.
