Town of Mashpee
16 Great Neck Road North
\yRy^t• L` `
Mashpee, Massachusetts 02649
BOARD OF HEALTH - PUBLIC SESSION
Mashpee Town Hall —Waquoit Meeting Room
Minutes of the Meeting of July 2, 2020
Board Members Present: Member Absent: Also Present:
Brian Baumgaertel,Chair Glen Harrington, Health Agent
Veronica Warden,Clerk Caitlin Gardipe,Assistant Health Agent
Chair Brian Baumgaertel called the meeting to order at 7:08 PM, and stated for the record that all Board
members were participating remotely.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Review of request for septic variance—5 Wood Road
Mr. Harrington commented that Mr. Westman has proposed that a concrete slab be constructed
to protect the septic tank. Mr. Westman has provided an engineered plan for the proposed
construction, which calls for an 8" thick reinforced concrete slab to be provided 12" above the
septic tank. An overhang of 6" beyond the tank is proposed. The Board has approved these
reinforced slabs in the past, in both vehicle and non-vehicle situations. The previous engineered
plans included a 6"thick slab and a 12"overhang beyond the tank. The inlet and outlet manholes
must be accommodated with a riser within 6"of grade for access for maintenance and inspection.
Mr. Harrington recommended that the backfill material should be pert sand, with no fines, to
prevent drainage of any storm water from collecting above the slab or tank.
There being no further comments or discussion,Veronica Warden moved to approve the variance
to install an 8"thick concrete slab over the septic tank with the following conditions: 1) that the
slab be constructed as designed with a 12" overhang; that the backfill material be pert sand
meeting Title V and be witnessed by a Health Agent; and 3) both the inlet and outlet access
manholes be within 6" of grade. Motion seconded by Brian Baumgaertel. Roll call vote: Brian
Baumgaertel (yes);Veronica Warden (yes). VOTE: Unanimous(2-0).
2. Review of amended Refuse Hauler Regulation
Mr. Harrington commented that there is still no update on this regulation, as Town Counsel has
not yet commented.
3. COVID-19 update. Mr. Harrington commented that the following actions are completed or
ongoing:
• Communicated new case numbers to the Town Manager, Fire Department, and our public
safety answering point
1
