Technical Report
Mashpee,MA
AIRVAC Estimate#2005-120
VACUUM STATION LOCATION
The vacuum stations have been located on the suggested Pump station locations.
In general, a vacuum station should be centrally located at the lowest feasible
elevation. Obviously, the vacuum station site must be available for
purchase/lease and easily accessible.
A central location is desirable to allow for multiple service zones. This is
accomplished by having multiple vacuum mains entering the vacuum station.
Multiple mains allow for pipe sizing and length to be kept to a minimum. More
importantly, this allows for more operational flexibility, as a problem in one zone
can be isolated and corrected while service remains uninterrupted in the
remaining zones.
From a hydraulic standpoint, it is desirable to locate the station at the lowest
possible elevation to minimize vacuum loss, reduce the number of lifts required
and allow for greater area coverage.
VACUUM STATION SIZING
The vacuum station-is_the heart of the vacuum collection system. The major
components include vacuum pumps, sewage Pumps, a collection tank and a
control panel.
Vacuum Pumps are used to pull sewage from the AIRVAC valve pits to a collection
tank in the vacuum station. Sewage Pumps transfer the sewage from the
collection tank to a force main. The vacuum station preliminary components are
shown in Table 4.
Table 4—Preliminary vacuum station components
Vacuum system Vacuum Sewage Collection
e. n
pumps(9fr7l) ink(dal)
pumps(gPm) tta
4-430 " "--' --
2-250 1-2,500
1 5
2 5-430
2-710 1-5,500
3 5-430
2-770 1-6,000
4 3-430 '2-44 0 1-4,000
5 3-430 2-480 1-4,000
The vacuum station is a package station where the skid-mounted mechanical and
electrical plant is supplied pre-assembled, tested and painted. This allows the
skid to be lifted into the building and connect to the incoming vacuum mains and
the outgoing force or gravity main,
1:WiwacEstimates1200510512OiCAD12005-120,dm 4
