f
Paul Andrews seconded the motion.
VOTE: Yes-3
Roll Call Vote: John Bartos, yes; Gregg Fraser, yes; Paul Andrews, yes
• Discussion of universal availability of online assessors' property record
cards.
Director Streebel explained that the Office had received three separate requests to
remove public online access to assessors' data for four different properties. The
requesters cited possible safety concerns stemming from other distant jurisdictions
who had had issues. Several points were discussed including that there would be
statutes relating to public records law that would be in play. Secondly,
delineating a set of standards for who could and could not request such special
treatment would be difficult to achieve in a fair and equitable manner without creating
a `slippery slope' scenario.
It was pointed out that the same information was available over the counter here in
the office and as well as numerous other sources online and that any suppression of
assessors' data would likely have negligible effect in achieving the stated purpose.
Director Streebel said that proactive action had already been taken to accommodate
the customer requests including listing of the properties alphabetically by spouse's
names instead of the requester's. Also, recommendations were made to customers
that the best method for them to pursue was to place the properties in a blind trust
thereby obfuscating ownership. The board directed the Mr. Streebel to continue
researching the subject. No further action taken.
Additional Topics: None
Next Meetinq Date: To be determined.
ADJOURNMENT
Paul Andrews motioned to adjourn at 6:19 pm.
Gregg Fraser seconded the motion.
VOTE: Yes-3
Roll Call Vote: Paul Andrews, yes; Gregg Fraser, yes; John Bartos, yes
Respectfully submitted,
Jason R. Streebel
Director of Assessing
- 3 -
