9
The Highway Department has done a fine job of keeping
our roads clear of snow and ice. The work on Cotuit Road
is near completion and the work on Mashpee Neck Road has
been completed as provided for at the last annual meeting.
The Fire Department is well equiped and manned. Chief
Peters is doing an excellent job of maintaining his depart-
ment and being in a constant state of readiness.
Chief Oakley has done well in re-establishing the Police
Department. The department is in need of additional office
space and more equipment in order to function more effec-
tively. The new cruiser and added patrols have made our
highways safer for travel and have more than likely pre-
cluded many infractions of the law by keeping the town
under constant surveillance.
Because of a technicality in the zoning hearings, the
Attorney General's office dissaproved the By -Law. However,
no difficulty is anticipated in having another unanimous vote
in the forthcoming annual meeting.
The board wishes to thank the town officials, town coun-
sel and all departments for their cooperation in helping to
keep our town on a sound basis and an attractive place to
live in.
Respectfully submitted,
LEROY M. AIKEN, Chairman
CLARA L. BIGELOW
ELWOOD O. MILLS
Board of Selectmen
