9
The Fire Department maintains its efficiency in prevent-
ing and controlling fires. The fireline brushing program which
this department so ably carries on, is keeping our woods roads
open, which would otherwise be closed by fast growing trees
and brush. We must keep our Ancient Ways open.
The Civil Defense program is not what it should be, be-
cause of lack of cooperation. We appeal to the citizens of the
town to help in this so important program.
The Board of Health has kept the disposal area in good
condition. The school dental program was well done in 1962,
plans are being made to have this program more effective in
1963, by procuring our own dental equipment.
There is an urgent need for office space in the Town Hall
to accommodate the departments and committees, which our
by-laws call for the town to provide.
The monthly departmental meetings have been well at-
tended, many of the problems of the departments have been
studied and resolved. The Board of Selectmen would like to
have these meetings continue through the ensuing year.
The year 1963 marks the 200th anniversary of the es-
tablishment of the District of Mashpee. Plans are . being
studied and a day set on which the citizens may celebrate this
occasion.
The Centennial Committee was appointed and are work-
ing on plans for the 100th anniversary of the Incorporation
of the Town of Mashpee, which will occur in 1970. We feel
confident this program will be recognized for its historical
background, and through favorable advertising and pro-
motion will benefit us all.
The Selectmen wish to express their appreciation to the
townspeople, town counsel, officials and departments for
their cooperation in helping to keep our town on a sound
basis and an attractive place to live.
Respectfully submitted,
LEROY M.
