8
Report of the Board of Selectmen
To the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
The activities of the year 1962, have been numerous,
problems never before encountered had to be dealt with, and
resolved. The accomplishments and activities, we feel indi-
cate progress in the over all planning for Mashpee.
Each year we have endeavored to maintain and improve
the over all appearance of the town, as we face the future,
we are determined to meet the demands of our fast growing
town, with more efficiency.
Capital outlay costs and operating expenses have been
met, and a review of the financial statement will show the
condition of the town has improved.
The beauties and abundant natural resources that exist
in the town, has been enhanced by the new type of develop-
ments being carried out, and the publicity accompanying this
type of land planning, has been beneficial, resulting in an in-
crease in. population.
The Conservation Committee was appointed, and have
started a program of preserving certain lands for a town
forest, or green belts, watersheds, wet land and marshes, that
are so important to marine and wild life.
We experienced another active year in our highway pro-
gram. The Chapter 90 contracts have been completed on
Cotuit Road, Route 130; and Chapter 81, patching and seal -
coating and general maintenance of all other roads. Snow
and ice on our highways was very capably handled.
Considerable engineering had to be done on Meeting
House Road and other roads upon which work will be started
in the spring.
A County taking of land on Seconset Island causeway was
made, and when working plans are completed, construction
will begin on this much needed access road.
Because of these road programs and land takings, which
subsequently led to land damage suits by abutters, a great
deal of time was spent in court, which were settled equitably.
