35
Report of the Veterans' Agent
`To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Mashpee, Massachusetts
Dear Sirs:
The following is a report of the Department of Veterans'
Services for the calendar year 1963.
When submitting a budget for Veterans' Benefits, the
agent must of necessity anticipate, as far as possible, the
needs of -a community under this program for the coming
year. When arriving at a recommended amount for a budget,
it is impossible to anticipate unforeseen expenditures, partic-
ularly hospital and medical expenditures.
The only permanent recipients at present are World
War I veterans, their widows, and parents of World War II
veterans. The veterans of Mashpee should be very proud of
their employment record. As previously reported, and with
Pride, percentage wise they rank high in the Commonwealth.
The citizens of Mashpee should also share in this pride which
is the result of the veterans' industrious efforts.
The total expenditures for Veterans' Benefits for 1963
were $2,596.72. Of this amount 5097o will be reimbursed to the
Town of Mashpee by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The total appropriation for the year was $4,500.00. I am
happy to report that I was able to live within my budget and
return to the Treasury $1,903.28, and also returned $23.56
from the expense account.
I wish to extend my thanks for the wholehearted co-
operation of the Board of Selectmen, the Town Treasurer,
the Town Auditor, the Town Clerk, the Welfare Agent, the
Finance Committee, the Custodian, and other public officials
for their assistance.
Very truly yours,
FRANCIS E. DEVLIN
Veterans' Agent
