9
The Fire Department has done much in protecting the
lives and property of our citizens. Several major house fires
and threatening fires at the disposal area were brought under
control. To all appearances we have a fine fire department,
but Chief Peters is still in need of more help to stand by for
assistance in calls that occur during the day time.
Civil Defense is very much in need of volunteers. This
agency is of great importance in the event of any disaster.
First Aid classes were held and well attended.
The Police Department has kept the peace, and control-
led traffic throughout our many miles of roads. The rowdy
nuisance was reduced to a minimum the past summer. The
purchase of the new cruiser will help in policing the Town.
The projects voted at the annual town meeting have been
carried out, and records will show the year was not without
accomplishments.
There is still much need for office space for the various
boards. The wasted space on the stage has been converted
into office space for the Selectmen and Accountant—and
desk space for the Town Counsel. The Planning Board will
occupy space vacated by Selectmen.
The proposed combined meetings of the Board of Select-
men, Finance Committee and the Planning Board for the
study of growth and improvements in the community have
been carried out from time to time. We hope to conduct
such meetings more frequently during the coming year. Cap-
itol projects should always be in the foreground and annually
revised as the need arises. A long-range plan of ten to
twenty-five years should be instigated.
The Board wishes to thank the Citizens and all depart-
ments of the Town, Town Counsel, the Mashpee Advisory
Commission and all others who have contributed to Town
welfare for their cooperation in making the activities of the
year a success.
Respectfully submitted,
LEROY M. AIKEN, Chairman
FRANK E. HICKS
LEO C. SWEENEY
Selectmen of Mashpee
I
I
1
