8
Report of Selectmen
The Board of Selectmen submit the following report
to the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee for the year
ending December 31, 1964:
1964 has been quite eventful and a very busy one for the
Selectmen. The Town is growing rapidly and its growth has
been wholesome and beneficial.
The population is still on the increase and many fine
people are coming to the Town to live, permanently, as well
as the many who are attracted by our natural resources—
the seashore—and fine summer weather.
We were successful in having the State install street
lights at the Mashpee Rotary Circle, making it safer for
moving traffic as well as adding to its attractiveness.
Through the efforts of a few dedicated citizens, and gen-
erous contributions of the businessmen of the area as well
as others, the circle was a -glow with Christmas cheer from
the beautiful lights shimmering among the trees; and Christ-
mas carols, sung in the crisp wintry air, gave us all a happy
feeling of Christmas.
The deed for the South Cape Beach property of 19.6 acres,
which was a gift by the Field's Point Manufacturing Com-
pany, was duly recorded. The parking area, while not com-
pletely finished, is usable.
Legal entrance was made and recorded on Great Oak
Road.
Many appointments were made and committees formed
to take care of the ever-increasing business and needs of the
Town. There is, however, a great need for dedicated, capable
men and woman to apply for openings on the various com-
mittees and to fill important positions in Town departments,
Chapter 81 and 90 highway projects are progressing as
rapidly as conditions will permit. A section of Route 151 was
oiled and stoned. The Highway Department is to be com-
mended on its care and maintenance of the Town roads.
Orchard Road was re -surfaced under Chapter 822—Acts of
1963.
