9
Report of the Board of Selectmen
The Board of Selectmen submit the following report
to the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee for the year
ending December 31, 1965:
Unprecedented growth in all areas still continues in the
Town of Mashpee, evidenced in many ways. The building
boom continues; area developments of many kinds are con-
templated or in the process of being carried out; !and :all
Town departments find themselves with an ever expanding
agenda of work in order to carry out the duties of office.
Ground has been broken and building started on a mo-
dern shopping center at the Mashpee Rotary Circle. Con-
struction has begun on the new library on Great Neck Road
and it is hoped it may be completed by summer.
The Town has joined the District Board of Veterans'
Services, which comprises the Towns of Barnstable, Mashpee,
Yarmouth, Dennis and Sandwich. This gives us daily contact
with our Veterans' Agent rather than on a weekly basis, and
more satisfactory .access to Veterans' Services.
Traffic laws have been established, which have been ac-
cepted by the Department of Public Works; :and speed zone
regulations which have been -approved by the Department
Of Public Works and the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Requests
are being made in this year's Town Warrant for speed zone
signs and white center of the road lines in strategic areas.
The Mashpee committee .appointed by the Selectmen,
along with a similar committee appointed by the Selectmen
of the Town of Barnstable to study the possibility of dredging
in Popponesset Bay have completed the first steps necessary
to inaugurate the dredging project. This has been included
in the Harbors and Rivers Act passed by Congress during
the past year. A sum of money will be :allocated to the Army
Corps of Engineers for an emergency study of Popponesset
Bay at no cost to either town.
