23
Selectmen's Report
The year 1952 has been a year of great progress in our
Town. There were a number of projects that were started and
completed. We take pride in the comfort stations that were
erected on the beach at Mashpee Pond. We installed a new
well and pump to make drinking water available. The park-
ing area was also increased to accommodate more vehicles.
Always a major problem at the Mashpee Pond Beach, is the
influx of out of town people who monopolize the beach and
parking area on weekends. We hope by the establishment of
a Park Commission something may be worked out that will
be of satisfaction to all, in regards to the use of the property.
With the cooperation of the Recreation Committee, we
were able to decorate the Town's Public Buildings with Christ-
mas Lighting. The new Town Hall, Fire Barn, Library, and
School were decorated and lit through the Christmas and
New Year's Holidays.
We had a new pump installed and the water system over-
hauled, also the heating plant serviced and overhauled at
the new Town Hall., The utilities and building are in good
condition but the exterior of the building needs painting this
year very badly.
New street lights were installed as provided for, in article
27 at last year's annual town meeting.
Our board has found it difficult in regards to the taking
of roads, landings and so forth without funds available for
legal counsel. However, we have been advised that funds will
be made available in 1953, therefore, considerable progress
should be made this year.
