lI
well
,est
lor.
and Report of the Public Welfare
,kle
ate,
ant,
tor,
ems To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
isel The past year has been an unusually expensive one in
Md caring for the needy persons in this community. This sit-
of nation is not peculiar to Mashpee but is the general situation
and in outlying communities.
sely There are many contributing factors to the local situa-
our tion. The inclement weather of the late winter and early
spring in 1955 reduced employment opportunities, thus neces-
in- sitating greater amounts of supplementary aid under General
oer- Relief.
Zdi- f
In the category of Aid to Dependent Children our in-
ever, creased caseload is responsible for the larger expenditures.
co- Prolonged hospitalization of two of our Old Age Assis-
lich tante cases necessitated a special town meeting in order
city, for us to have sufficient funds to cover the needs of our Old
Age Assistance payrolls. This meeting was held in September
and adequate funds were appropriated to complete the year.
Larger appropriations are being requested for 1956 in the
1 hope that such special town meetings may be avoided this
year.
There have been no cases receiving Disability Assistance
,pee for the greater part of the year, thus our expenditures in
this category have been negligible.
The medical expense has been on the increase and has
accounted for a greater share of our expenditures than usual.
It continues to be a big problem.
