10
The Volunteer Fire Fighters who have been trained so well
under Chief Peters can easily be classified as one of the best
crews in its category.
Special thanks are extended to Colonel Bernard Gor.
finkle for his conscientious effort in promoting a fund
raising campaign for rescue equipment. Colonel Gorfinkle
sparked the drive by donating a station wagon; to date,
the equipment, under the jurisdiction of the fire department,
consists of fully equipped rescue truck, a boat with motor,
rigged for rescue work on the water and various other items
such as wire cutter, blankets, lanterns, etc.
Through the efforts of the board and our Town Counsel,
Mr. Edwin S. Mycock, the town has recently been allocated
$40,000.00 State aid for the construction of a portion of
Monomoscoy Road to commence at the beginning of, and
extending across the Marsh. Mr. Mycock has worked closely
with the board and we feel fortunate in having him as our
legal aid.
The town finances are in good standing, the tax rate in-
viting, and the valuation of the town has increased per
ceptibly. The year around population of 524 does not indi
tate a tremendous increase over the past five years, however,
the seasonal population continues to grow steadily.
The board is pleased to express appreciation for the co-
operation of the citizens and departments of the town which
are so essential in the function of a fast growing community.
Respectfully submitted,
LEROY M. AIKEN, Chairman
FRANK E. HICKS
CLARA L. PETERS
Selectmen of Mashpee
i1 '
