10'
i
Report of Board of Public Welfare
To the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
A complete report of Welfare activity in the Town of
Mashpee for the year ending December 31, 1956 will be found
in the Annual Report as submitted by Mr. John P. Grant,
Chapter 283 Welfare Agent for the Town of Mashpee. This
report gives the townspeople a candid picture of the depart-
ment expenditures. However, the Board of Selectmen wishes
to thank Mr. Grant publicly for his sincere endeavor to
subdue our welfare rolls.
As you compare the 1956 and 1957 budget, you will notice
that Old Age Assistance has been decreased $1,000.00; Aid
to Dependent Children has been decreased $600.00 and Dis-
ability Assistance has been decreased $500.00. Although
General Relief has been increased $1,500.00 over the 1956
budget, it should be brought to your attention that the above
amount and possibly more will be reimbursed to the Town of
Mashpee by other towns who have residents living here and
receiving general relief.
As an overall picture, the Welfare budget has been de-
creased $600.00, which is a decided step in the right direction
and with the continued cooperation of the residents of
Mashpee, the results of Mr. Grant's endeavor will be more
gratifying during the forthcoming year.
I
Respectfully,
CLARA L. PETERS,Chmn.
FRANK E. HICKS
LeROY M. AIKEN
Board of Public Welfare
1
1'
1.
