11 <br /> Report of the Public Welfare <br /> 1956 <br /> f <br /> i <br /> To the Honorable Board of Selectmen <br /> 5 <br /> The past year has been an expensive year in meeting the <br /> 5 needs of the indigent people of the community. This situa- <br /> tion is not peculiar to Mashpee but is generally prevalent <br /> in most communities in the Commonwealth. <br /> Due to the increased cost of living, it became necessary <br /> 1 on July 1 to effect a 5% increase in grants in all categories <br /> of assistance. This was required by the State Standards of <br /> 1 Assistance. <br /> This increase has been alleviated to a great extent by <br /> reason of an increase in Federal subsidies in Old Age Assis- <br /> tance, Aid to Dependent Children, and Disability Assistance. <br /> i <br /> The resignation of Mrs. Delscena Hendricks occurred <br /> during the year and Mrs. Ida D. O'Brien accepted our offer <br /> and assumed the duties of social worker. Mrs. O'Brien has <br /> proven to be an able and capable worker. <br /> f <br /> The caseloads and expenditures for the year are as fol- 1 <br /> lows: <br />
