ti
12`
i
i
a
Report of the Board of Health
To the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
' The town dumping area has presented a problem for
several years. The board has made numerous attempts to
acquire property and re-locate the dumping area. Land own-
ers are generally reluctant to sell a piece of property which
would be suitable for a dump because of the effect it would
i
have upon adjoining property.
! The Board of Health has entered two special articles in
the 1958 Annual Warrant which would relieve the dumping
problem greatly if accepted. We are unanimously in favor
of a custodian of the dump who would be paid an annual
salary to supervise dumping and maintain the area. One of
our big problems is the use of the dump by non-residents of
the town. This would be eliminated. Adequate regulations
have been drafted by the Board governing the use of the
dump and will be properly advertised if the articles are
favorably voted upon in the town meeting. The Board will
continue to seek another location for the town dump. We
wish to thank Chief Ellsworth Peters for his cooperation in
supervising the burning of the Town Dump during the past
year.
The Park Commissioners were designated by the Board
i
of Health to oversee the removal of seaweed from the town
beach located at Seconset Island. No complaints were re
ceived from citizens during the past year in regard to the
health hazard previously presented by the seaweed; the
Board of Health wishes to thank the Park commission for
their thorough and conscientious effort in carrying out this
assignment.
7
{
i
