13
Financial assistance was given to the School Dental pro-
gram during the past year. It was necessary to hold addi-
tional clinics than had been provided for in the school budget,
due to the number of children having teeth in extremely
poor condition.
One of the hazards of the Health Budget, is the unfore-
seen emergencies which cannot be anticipated when the
budget is being set up. Premature births fall -in this cate-
gory, and inasmuch as the weight of a premature baby has
been increased to 51/2 lbs., the number of residents in need
)r of financial assistance also increases. 60% of the initial
to health appropriation was expended during 1957 for prema-
i- ture births. A transfer of funds authorized in the August 6,
;h 1957 special town meeting was sufficient to carry the depart-
Id ment through the remainder of the year, to defray other de-
partmental expenditures such as maintenance of town dump,
payments to the Barnstable County Hospital, Animal Inspec-
tors salary, etc.
ig
Dr The Barnstable County Health Association is planning
al to conduct a Chest X-ray survey during the forth coming
of spring and all residents are urged to take advantage of this
of opportunity. A comparatively small portion of the cost will
is be borne by the town Health program and the Association
ie will pay the balance. The local newspaper will post the exact
re dates of the survey.
ill Premises of holders of Common Victualler and Recre-
le ational licenses were inspected by the County Health Depart-
ment and passed the examination satisfactorily.
St
The Board of Health wishes to extend thanks to the of-
rd f1cials and departments of the Town who cooperated with
the Health program during the past year.
n
Respectfully submitted,
ie
ie CLARA L. BIGELOW, Ohm.
r FRANK E. HICKS
is WILLIAM W. MILLS
Board of Health
i
