Explanation-, This article was submitted by the Wampanoag Indian Tribal Council, Inc. This <br /> project will restore the Old Indian Meetinghouse, the oldest Indian Meetinghouse in the United <br /> States, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Old Indian Meetinghouse is an <br /> essential part of the history of the Town of Mashpee and its restoration and preservation will <br /> contribute to Mashpee's unique character. The building will be open to the public and serve the <br /> community for church services, weddings and funerals. <br /> The Board of Selectmen recommends approval by a vote of 5-0. <br /> The Finance Committee recommends approval by a vote of -0. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Theresa Cook. <br /> Motion.- I move the Town vote to appropriate and transfer from the Community Preservation <br /> Fund Historic Reserve, in accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. c.44B §5, $325,000 for the <br /> purpose of funding the restoration of the Old Indian Meetinghouse, including necessary costs and <br /> expenses related thereto, as recommended by the Community Preservation Committee. <br /> Motion passes 7:14 PM* <br /> Article 7 <br /> To see if the Town will vote to appropriate and transfer from the Community Preservation Fund, <br /> in accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. c.44B §5, $20,000 for the purpose of funding a <br /> reconnaissance-level archeological survey of the entire Town of Mashp�ee to identify, preserve <br /> and protect archeological, and cultural resources, including necessary costs and expenses related <br /> thereto, as recommended by the Community Preservation Committee, or take any other action <br /> 'relating thereto. <br /> Submitted by the Community Preservation Act Committee <br /> Explanation-, This article was submitted by the Mashpee Historical Commission. Funding will <br /> provide for a reconnaissance-level survey would protect the Town's historic and cultural <br /> resources. Highly qualified consultants would conduct this survey and identify known and <br /> probable areas, sites, burial grounds, objects and landscapes from prehistoric times to the <br /> present. <br /> The Board of Selectmen recommends approval by a vote of 5-0. <br /> The Finance Committee recommends approval by a vote of 6-0. <br /> Motion made by Selectman John Cahalane. <br /> Motion: I move the Town vote to appropriate and transfer from the Community Preservation <br /> Fund Historic Reserve, in accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. c.44B §5, $20,000 for the <br /> purpose of funding a reconnaissance-level archeological survey of the entire Town of Mashpee <br /> to identify, preserve and protect archeological and cultural resources, including necessary costs <br /> and expenses related thereto., as recommended by the Community Preservation Committee. <br /> Motion passes unanimously at TP.17 PM* <br /> 5 <br />
