Article 8
To see if the Town will vote to permanently dedicate Heritage Park, as shown on Assessors'
Map 27 as lot 25 and on the plan entitled "Plan of Land in Mashpee, Mass." and dated January
121 1988", for use as park, playground or recreational purposes or take any other action relating
thereto.
Submitted by the Department of Public Works
Explanation: This article proposes to permanently dedicate Heritage Park for use as park,
playground or recreational purposes. This dedication will not change the use of Heritage Park as
it has historically been used for these purposes, is currently being used for these purposes, and
will continue to be used for these purposes in the future. The dedication will, however, make the
Town eligible to receive matching funds from the state or federal government for construction of
additional fields and related site amenities such as parking.
Motion made by Kenneth Marsters.
Motion: I move Article 8 be indefinitely postponed.
Motion passes at 7,-52 p.m.
Article 9
To see if the Town will vote to amend the Mashpee Code by striking the third sentence of
Chapter 40, Article 1, §40-1 (A) and inserting in place thereof the following language:
"the Fall Annual Town Meeting will be held the first Monday in November and will address any
and all other business to come before the Town Meeting" or take any other action relating
thereto.
Submitted by the Board of Selectmen
Explanation: This would allow additional time to properly prepare warrant items for town
meeting. Additionally, the present time frame does not allow adequate time for the Town
Accountant to verify and certify free cash at the completion of the fiscal year. The additional
time would allow for a more in-depth review and time for discussion/questions regarding warrant
articles. The extension would allow additional time for end of year preparation immediately
following the fiscal year. The re-scheduling would also align Mashpee more with the
timeframes of the surrounding communities' Town Meeting dates and alleviate the need to
change Town Meeting due to religious holidays.
Motion made by George Green.
0
Motion: I move Article 9 be voted as printed in, the warrant with the exception of the phrase, "or
take any other action relating thereto".
