"§1 4-25.1. Home Occupations. <br /> A. Statement of Intent. <br /> This section is intended to protect residential areas from potential adverse impacts of activities <br /> defined as home occupations to permit residents of the community a broad choice in the use of <br /> their homes as a place of livelihood in the production or supplementing of personal/family <br /> income, to restrict incompatible uses and to establish criteria and standards for the use of <br /> residential structures or dwelling units for home occupations. <br /> B. permitted Home Occupations. <br /> (1) C home occupations which involve only limited visits to the property by <br /> persons who are not residents of the premises, which involve no employees who <br /> are not residents of the premises, which will have no noticeable impact on. <br /> abutting properties and which otherwise conform with the requirements of this <br /> section may be conducted upon approval of a home occupation permit following <br /> the procedures specified for plan reviews in Subsection 174- 4. . The home <br /> office of an author or editor, or of a "telecommuter" whose principal office is <br /> located elsewhere, is allowed by right and will not be subject to these regulations. <br /> The following shall be considered examples of home occupations permitted under <br /> this is subsection: <br /> (a) Home sewing or tailoring business; <br /> (b) Studio of a painter, sculptor, photographer or similar professional. artist; <br /> (c) Telephone answering service; <br /> (d) Production of crafts such as handiwork, model making, weaving, lapidary, or <br /> other similar products for the purpose of selling the product; <br /> (e) Tutoring and giving lessons, limited to four (4) students at one time; <br /> (f) Catering, home cooking and preserving for the purposes of selling the <br /> product; <br /> (g) Dome office of an off-premises business such as a taxi service, <br /> hunting/fishing guide, tourist guide or similar business; <br /> (h) Computer consulting or programming; <br /> (i) Commercial shellfishing, lobstering and aquaculture businesses. <br /> (2) .Application procedures. Applicants shall submit an application for a Home <br /> â–ºccupat.ion. Permit to the Building inspector. The Building Inspector may grant a <br /> permit if it is reasonably concluded from the evidence that the proposed home <br /> occupation will meet the standards set out in Section 174-2 ,1. . Staff will. <br /> review the application and the applicant will be 'notified of the decision of the <br /> Department following e procedures ores specified for plan. reviews it Subsection <br /> t <br /> 174-24. . The decision of the Building Inspector may be appealed to the Zoning <br /> Board of Appeals within 30 days of the notification if the applicant is aggrieved.. <br /> (3) There shall be no outdoor storage of materials or equipment except that outdoor <br /> storage of materials for water-dependent uses such as lobster pots and shellfish <br />
