Page 2 Special Town Meeting Aug 4/71 l
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING ® Wednesday August 4, 1971
i
Article 2 Ctd:
Ehrisman: For other purposes?
Garland: No, I can't say it was spent for other purposes. Presum-
ably they spent it for the reasons for which it was requested.
Town Accountants (Shea) I aria the one who made the mistake. In essence,
we have here an overdraft. The money has been paid. There is no way
to get it back. This article is merely a way to straighten out the
Accountant ' s books. If it is not approved and voted at this time,
it would have to main be put into the warrant of the March Town
meeting ® or taken up by the Assessors and added to the tax rate.
This is the easiest way to handle it, or it must go on the tax rate.
Garland: I can't let Mr. Shea shoulder this responsibility. It seems
to me these two boards should take a share of the blame. They should
never have spent this money after their request was disapproved.
Hand count was taken. 74 for: 3 opposed: Motion carried.
Article 3. To see if the Town will vote to wise and appropriate
or take tFom available funds the sum of $2500.00 for the Town Hall
Maintenance Fund; such sums to be utilized in the construction of
a garage for the town ambulance and for storage space for Civil
Defense. Submitted by Board of Selectmen. NOT RECOMMENDED
Garland: I would like some discussion on this from the Board of Select-
men or other interested parties. We did not recommend this article
after receiving plans showing the shed proposed to be built on the back-
side of the police department and this building. We have serious
questions as to the wisdom of the location and the effect on the
insurance rate of thisbuilding.
F. Hicks : The Board of Selectmen has reconsidered the originalpro-
posal. If this meeting will go along, we would like to put up a
garage entirely separate from this building. We did consider the
first plan because we thought it would be cheaper ® with one side
already made. We had a contractor supply us with specifications,
but we had not taken into consideration at the time the effect it
might have on insurance, etc. It was to have a concrete floor, be 1
fully insulated, with overhead garage door. . . . .
From the floor: I trove this article be talbed until the Selectmen
come up with a better set of plans.
Benway: I object to tabling this article. We have a new 14,000.00
dollar ambulance; it should not sit out all winter in winter weather
and snow, We have plans for an adequate building. We have $2500. 0
approximately, now. We don't have official bids out; we don't have
all the needed money. It is important we put this $14,000.00 ambulance
under cover.
